What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a scientifically validated approach to processing trauma and emotional distress. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on reprocessing traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping). This allows the brain to process distressing memories in a healthier way, leading to reduced emotional charge and more balanced mental health. EMDR therapy can be particularly effective for first responders who have experienced repeated exposure to trauma and may be unaware of how it’s impacting their mental and emotional well-being.
